Sept 6th, 2007

The past six weeks have been full of adventure, exploration and high quality singletrack riding. With two epic multi-day rides and number of great day rides in the books, my appetite for mountain biking has been fairly satisfied and I now turn the focus back to work. The strong desire for a newer sled requires a good fall season of work in the bush before winter begins to cover Bralorne in highly shreddable blankets of pow-pow.

I am making a trip back to Ontario to visit family & friends and to attend a wedding. This trip is currently scheduled for Sept 26 - Oct 9 but could change depending on when the good planting contracts start.

Adventures

This summer's adventures were of truly epic proportions; the pinnacle of which was a five day, self supported mountain bike ride. Four of us flew out to Taseko Lake and rode over 150km of singletrack en route to Tyax Lodge. We explored Powell Pass, where mountain bikes may have never been before, and deem it a good route for future bike trips. The rest of our ride took us through Elbow, Lorna, Little Graveyard, Windy and Camel Passes. Photos of this and other recent adventures can be seen on my Summer 2007 Flickr Photo Page

Winter 2007

Some notable adventures from the 2007 winter are listed below. The photos from most adventures are posted on myWinter 2007 Flickr Photo Page Czek it out.

April 7, 2007 Slim Creek - This was my biggest snowmobiling day to date. We covered 162km with 100 of that being in the alpine. We went to the lookout over the Arrowhead icefield to assess the route to the Bridge Glacier but the clouds were rolling in fast so we chose to save our attempt on the Bridge for next time. After a tour to the far side of Griswold Pass, we looped around and went to explore the infamous Taylor Pass and the headwaters of Gun Creek. It was on the Gun side of Taylor where six of us spent an unintentional, cold, sleepless night seven years ago while on a mountain bike trip. The travelling was much easier on sleds. Photos of this epic day are here.

April 2-3, 2007 Lone Goat Trip - Five of us spent the night of the full moon at the Lone Goat cabin. We rode our skis and snowboards under the moonlight and sledded under sunny skies on either side of the full moon. Seemingly infinite traction allowed the sleds to some incredible peaks and cols. Another great overnighter at the Goat! Czek out the photos here.

March 1, 2007 Mt. Fergusson Heli-Drop -- The pilot pulled on the collective at 7:04am, whisking four of us to the 8500ft summit of Fergusson. After enjoying the jaw-dropping views from the top, we shredded the main bowl and then hiked into an old slide path for the second half of our run - right to Lenny's back door.

Feb 2 - 6, 2007 Snoboarding trip to Rossland -- My only road trip of the winter sent me to Rossland to visit my good friend Amanda. Red Mountain is a great ski resort with awesome touring from the lift, steep terrain and some of the best tree-skiing going! Combine that with a retro ski outfit party and you can't go wrong.

January 28-29, 2007 Sled trip from Gun Lake to Crystal Lake -- My biggest sled mission ever, an astonishing 210km of mountain riding in two days. We hiked 5km into a backcountry cabin for the night and rode home the next day. Spectacular scenery, great weather and a bunch of good sled luck made this trip a winner!

January 20, 2007 Mt. Noel snowboard touring lap in Bralorne -- A 3500ft ski run that we can see from town and often drool over because it isn't often skiable.

January 1, 2007: New Year's Eve at the Lone Goat Cabin -- Snowboarding at night with flashlights until the wee hours of the morning was the highlight of excitement for this trip. A crashed sled the next day, a foot of fresh snow since our arrival and then flat light followed by darkness made the ride out quite nerve racking.
